People in helping roles, whether formal or informal, benefit from their own supervision or peer support to process what they encounter regularly. It reflects genuine, sustainable care rather than short lived effort. This is worth revisiting regularly, not only during particularly hard weeks. It reflects care for yourself just as much as for anyone else.

Regular check ins with peers who understand the particular demands of a supporting role can offer perspective that is hard to find elsewhere. This is worth prioritising, not treating as an afterthought to everything else. It is a genuinely reasonable thing to prioritise for yourself too. It helps sustain the very support someone else is relying on from you.

1800RESPECT is on 1800 737 732, and Lifeline is on 13 11 14, both available any hour for helpers seeking their own support. Reaching out is always a reasonable step to take, whenever you feel ready. There is no need to have the right words ready before you call. You deserve the same care and patience you offer to others.
