Everyday respect in a relationship looks like listening fully, valuing each other's opinions, and treating one another kindly even during small, ordinary disagreements. This is true in relationships of every length and every kind. This matters just as much in quiet moments as in bigger ones. This becomes easier the more openly it is practised together.

These small habits, repeated consistently over time, build a foundation far stronger than any single grand gesture or occasional apology could ever provide on its own. This is a habit worth building early and maintaining consistently over time. This holds true whether a relationship is new or long established. This is worth practising even when things already feel comfortable between you.

If you would like to talk this through, support is available. 1800RESPECT is on 1800 737 732, and Lifeline is on 13 11 14. Nobody expects you to have all the answers before you call. You deserve the same care and patience you offer to others. Taking that first step counts for a great deal, however small it feels.
