A helpful personal checklist can be as simple as three honest questions to ask yourself: have I asked clearly, have I actually listened to the answer, and am I truly willing to accept it if that answer turns out to be no. It is one of the clearest ways to show someone they are respected.

Returning to these questions regularly, in ordinary everyday moments as much as significant ones, keeps consent from becoming an abstract idea and turns it instead into a genuine, lived daily practice worth being proud of. This shapes how safe and respected a person feels afterward. It applies equally in casual moments and more serious ones.

If you want to talk any of this through with someone, support is available whenever you need it most. 1800RESPECT is on 1800 737 732 around the clock, and Lifeline is on 13 11 14, any time at all. Reaching out is always a reasonable step to take, whenever you feel ready. Every call is treated with genuine care, whatever the reason behind it.
