Saying no to an additional demand on your time or energy, when you are already stretched, protects your ability to keep supporting others sustainably. It reflects genuine, sustainable care rather than short lived effort. This is worth treating as seriously as the support you give to others. It matters whether the role is formal or simply personal and unpaid.

This is not a failure of care, it is a recognition that sustainable support requires honest limits, communicated kindly and clearly to everyone involved. This is worth prioritising, not treating as an afterthought to everything else. This becomes easier with small, consistent habits practised over time. This is a quiet but essential part of supporting others well over time.

1800RESPECT is on 1800 737 732, and Lifeline is on 13 11 14, both available any hour for supporters working through this. Nobody expects you to have all the answers before you call. Reaching out is always a reasonable step to take, whenever you feel ready. You are never a bother for reaching out, whatever the hour happens to be.
