Making the first call can feel like the hardest part of all, but the actual conversation is generally gentler and slower than most people expect it to be. This is worth remembering, whatever is going on right now in life. This is worth remembering whenever things feel too heavy to carry alone.

A counsellor will introduce themselves, ask how they can help, and let you set the pace entirely, with no obligation to share more than feels comfortable to you. This is worth keeping in mind on harder days especially. It remains ready, any hour, for anyone who needs to reach out. It is there for questions just as much as for genuine crises.

1800RESPECT is ready to take that first call any hour of the day or night, on 1800 737 732, whenever you feel ready to reach out. It is completely okay to take things one small step at a time. Reaching out is always a reasonable step to take, whenever you feel ready.
